Alex Tew, the same guy who built the million pixel homepage is at it again, this time with 1000tags.com. Check out the thread at Techcrunch for a reasonably rich discussion about it.
After taking a look, I stand by what I wrote in November:
Lucky or smart, this one guy tapped into an unmet need to buy display advertising in an incredibly simple way, and in tiny increments.
1000tags fits that description as well. Tew’s new distribution strategy makes the whole scheme even more interesting.
This time I put my money where my mouth is, though not a lot. I spent US$30 to put WINKsite behind the tag “mobile” on a non-exclusive basis. It should be live by the time I get up Sunday.
